North Koreans mourn death of Kim in China

Across the Yalu river from North Korea, all looked usual in the Chinese border town of Dandong, one day after the news of Kim Jong-il's death.br Vehicles crossed the bridge linking the two countries, and the border was opened as usual at 9 am.br Chinese were shocked at the news of Kim's death, some said they hope to see the North open up.br (SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) LOCAL RESIDENT LI LONG SAYING:br "I think North Korea will speed up its reform and its economy will take off very quickly. I feel so because there have been some obvious changes in North Korea in the past two years. They have tried to open up some places, which just proved my point. I am sure its economy will take off in the future."br North Korean community in Dandong organised a mourning ceremony for Kim.br North Koreans laid flowers in front of Kim's photo, and many knelt on the floor crying.br With an 11-day mourning period in effect for him, the funeral of Kim Jong-il will be held on the 28th of December.br Sophia Soo, Reuters.
