I often get people asking me "Why do I need to learn the blues theory behind the chord structure" The little extra effort to learn what's going on will have a huge impact to your understanding of music. Currently this popular blues chord progression that you have learnt can only be playing the key of A Major, well that's fine, but what if you have a song your writing and it uses chords in the key of F major, or perhaps you have a new singer who can't quite hit those notes so you need to move all the chords down.
