Gill Weatherhead, Macebearer to the Mayor of the city of Wells (Somerset), was "arrested" whilst appearing to sell the Mayor's Mace to the highest bidder on 18th November 2006. This was a fundraising stunt in aid of the Royal United Hospital (Bath) but also coincided with the annual Children in Need appeal. Donations were requested to secure bail for Gill.
