Rallies held worldwide in support of Syrian opposition

Israelis and Palestinians took to the streets in a show of support of the Syria's opposition. They also called on President Bashar al-Assad to end the crackdown by government forces.

Christians in Ramallah held a mass in support of the Syrian people. In Tel Aviv, a crowd gathered outside the Russian embassy to protest Russia's veto of a U.N. resolution on Syria.

In London's Trafalgar Squar, hundreds called for urgent action to stop the military assault on Homs. They called the demonstration a show of solidarity with Syria's opposition.

Amnesty International Secretary General Salil Shetty.

SOUNDBITE (English) Amnesty International Secretary General Salil Shetty saying:

''The message to them is that you are not alone. So this is happening across the world. Sixteen cities, not just in Europe and North America but in Asia, Africa, Latin America, telling the people of Syria that we know you are going through a very difficult time. Your rights are being violated. We're with you.''

Some expressed outrage regarding the international response so far

SOUNDBITE: Syrian Demonstrator, Renata Shash saying:

''I think that the international reaction has been really appalling to what's happening in Syria, because it's a total genocide. People are killed. Children are killed. Women are raped, and the world just stands still and looking at what's happening. We need the support of the international community. We need their help, because this crime cannot go on in the 21st century."

The Syrian flag was carried through the streets of Paris as thousands demanded France take a more active role to end the killing in Syria.
