When the pressure inside the disc increases you notice the following symptoms: br br 1. Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet br 2. Decreased sensation in the extremities br 3. Weakness in the extremities br 4. Pain in the area of the herniation br br You may have a herniated disc if you feel these symptoms when you sneeze, cough, laugh, and push when you go to the bathroom. All these actions increase the pressure inside a disc and can bring about increased pain, which helps to diagnose a herniation especially if you experience pain traveling from one area to another as is the case with sciatica.
