IRVE-3 launched today July 23rd 2012 at 11:00 UTC after NASA technicians and engineers put the finishing touches on a unique experiment designed to demonstrate that an inflatable aeroshellheat shield could be used to protect spacecraft when entering a planet's atmosphere or returning here to Earth.
