With municipal elections coming to an end in Brazil, Eduardo Paes, mayor of Rio de Janeiro, handily secured his re-election. Securing more than 60 per cent of the vote, Paes' focus on public transportation projects ahead of the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics clearly earned him a lot of support. However, with two of the world's largest sporting events coming to his city, Paes will face major challenges in his second term as deadlines for large-scale construction projects approach.
