Sudan's Bashir upbeat despite shelling

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir addresses parliament Monday where he struck a hopeful note about relations with South Sudan.br br Last month the two countries agreed to secure their shared border.br br SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SUDAN PRESIDENT, OMAR AL-BASHIR, SAYING:br br "We hope that the agreements mark a breakthrough in relationship between the two countries and lay the foundations for the economy, security and social stability in addition to setting new horizons of cooperation for the benefit of the people of the two countries. We are now heading towards a new term of good relations between the two countries."br br But as Bashir addressed parliament, insurgents shelled the main city of Sudan's oil-producing region near the border with South Sudan -- in their first assault on the government stronghold since last year.
