Charlie Dennis, a young gas station attendant and amateur radio operator, notifies Richard Wentworth (Warren Hull) of strange messages being transmitted on the "hertzen band" frequency. When the Octopus transmits a radio message threatening to plunge the city into darkness if his demands are not met, Wentworth uses his knowledge of radio to track the signal to its source.
