Making Schools Safer, More Prepared

Watch more and discuss:br br Stamford police, fire, safety and security officials are continuing to make sure City schools are safe. Since January, the City's School Safety and Security Task force says its spent time in Stamford's 12 elementary schools. br Officials shared their initial findings with the Board of Education reporting issues they say could hinder student safety if they were faced with a situation. br They also found technical problems in the schools, such as camera and PA systems that are broken, that faculty may not know how to use. They also say most of the time substitute teachers don't have access to keys. br Moving forward, officials are presenting the ALICE program to school faculty The national program is designed to increase the chances of surviving an active shooter. br ALICE program stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter and evacuate. br The Board of Education will meet with the Board of Finance and Board of Representatives to talk about the City's next steps. Over the next several months, the task force will start assessing the City's middle and high schools.
