A mother finds a bloody heroin needle in a bread loaf.

It’s a good idea to thoroughly check all packaged foods before eating.

In December 2012, a mother opened up a loaf of whole meal bread while making a sandwich for her 10-year-old son. Then she made a horrific discovery - a needle covered in blood was lodged in the package.

She had purchased the loaf from a Tesco store in Pendleton, United Kingdom. The mom handed the bread and needle over to police, who were able to track down the culprit by using DNA.

61-year-old, David Rodgers recently pleaded guilty in court for his responsibility in the incident. Rodgers claimed he kept the needle in his pocket for two days after using it for a heroin fix.

Prosecutors believe he hid the evidence in the bread because he didn’t want his wife to know he was back on the drug.

Last year, passengers on four separate Delta Air Lines flights had quite a shock when needles were discovered in sandwiches that were being served. Officials claim the object that left one Minneapolis bound passenger injured, resembled a 'sewing needle' , prompting the FBI and Netherlands' authorities to get involved in the investigation.
