Watch more and discuss:br br Governor Dannel Malloy announced a proposed plan for the University of Connecticut at its Stamford campus. The plan called "Next Generation Connecticut" is in the works to get students prepared for jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. br Nationwide, STEM jobs grew three times faster, from 2000-2010, than nonstem jobs. The governor says with this program, STEM graduates in CT will be increased by 47 percent, turning out a new workforce. br The ten-year $1.5 billion plan proposes to hire new faculty and increase enrollment. br For Stamford's campus, Herbst says about 300 more students a year would receive undergraduate degrees, and a staff of 35 new employees would be hired. br In CT officials say there is a demand for professional digital media and business expertise and Fairfield County contributes to this demand. Herbst says each UCONN campus will offer something different. br The plan for the Stamford campus also includes a short and long term housing plan and additional parking options.
