Faced with massive ally trouble ever since the exit of the DMK, the UPA is now building its contingency plan for 2014 and the JD(U) seems to be its best bet. Sources say the Centre is looking to woo Nitish Kumar by granting him his demand for a special status for the state of Bihar. Sources say the government is planning to revise the yardstick for judging backwardness of states; a move that would also provide SOPs to the states of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, & some parts of Rajasthan.
