Black Sabbath crowned metal kings after topping UK album charts

They've just topped the British album charts for the first time in 43 years.

But now Black Sabbath are celebrating again.

They were crowned the kings of heavy metal at the UK's top metal music awards, the Metal Hammer Golden Gods.

Founding member Tommy Iommi joked with the crowd about his age.

SOUNDBITE: Black Sabbath founding member and guitarist, Tommy Iommi, saying (English):

"It's great, it's been a fantastic day. I mean we haven't had a number one album in England for 43 years. I was only two when they did the first album."

Veteran rockers Motorhead were also recognised, performing their 1980 hit "Ace of Spades".

It was the 11th annual ceremony for the Golden Gods.

Airbourne, Coal Chamber and Five Finger Death Punch were also performers at London's O2.

The best new band award went to Bleed From Within, while American rock band Coheed and Cambria won best song for "Dark Side of Me".
