International Space Station plagued with cooling system problem

Flying high above the Earth, the International Space Station could be in for a major repair.

NASA officials say they are working to fix a problem with the cooling system.

One of the cooling pumps automatically shut down Wednesday after detecting abnormal temperatures.

SOUNDBITE: KENNY TODD, ISS MISSION OPERATIONS INTEGRATION MANAGER, SAYING:

"We haven't lost any primary functionality. There is some redundancy that we are down right now. But, again, that is not something that I would call critical to day to day station operations."

NASA officials say the problem does not pose a risk to the six astronauts aboard the space station.

Engineers will determine if a spacewalk is necessary to replace the faulty cooling pump.
