Skokiaan - Carlings 1993

Years ago I heard Louis Armstrong play the African tune Skokiaan. Hans Carling wrote me that the Carlings approach the tune in a manner which could have been somewhat on how the Scottish clarinettist Sandy Brown could have approached it. But the Carling version is so powerful and so energetic. After a solo exchange between Max on clarinet and Gunhild on trumpet, Gunhild sings the happy, happy Africa version. Then, once the drum tom tom starts, Gerd and Gunhild go in a number of chorusses of synchronized dancing, ending with a handstand by Gunhild. After that they must be exhausted one would think, but no, they run back to their horns and after a keychange they go full blast to finish the tune.
Totally amazing.
