Russia has opened the doors of its airbase in western Syria fo rthe first time since it began military operations in support of President Bashar al Assad's forces.
Journalists were flown in to the base at Hemeimeem near the coastal city of Latakia from where Russia has been conducting daily sorties against Syrian rebels.
Moscow claims to have killed "hundreds" of militants in the country and last week it warned it could widen its offensive to include missile strikes from ships based in the Mediterranean.
