STORY: Britain's Queen Elizabeth on Thursday completed the first leg of her Diamond Jubilee tour by paying a visit to the city of Leicester.

The monarch, who was showered with flower bouquets, was met by hundreds of cheering and flag waving crowds during all of her stops in the city.

Following her visit to the city's university and watching a student fashion show, the royal party, which also included the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Cambridge, went on to attend a church service, which included speakers of several religious faiths.

Following a lunch break and a meeting with various faith leaders at St. Martins House, a nearby conference center, the group journeyed to the town's city center, the final stop of Thursday's tour.

The Queen was also invited to unveil a new plaque which will soon be seen in the city's newly named Jubilee Square.

She will continue her four-month tour to cities in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, as part of celebrations for her reign which began on February 6, 1952.

The diamond jubilee festivities will have their biggest momentum over four days in June, including a 1,000-ship pageant on the River Thames through London and a concert at Buckingham Palace.
