Jealousy ---- that's what Chinese swimming sensation Ye Shiwen's first coach says is motivating speculation the 16-year-old took performance enhancing drugs.

At the pool where Ye took her first dip ten years ago, her coach her talent was apparent early on - and that her large hands and feet, as well as broad shoulders, gave her a a natural advantage.

SOUNDBITE: Ye Shiwen's First Swimming Coach, Wei Wei saying (Mandarin):

"I think some western media look at China with prejudice. To be honest, their mentality can be understood. Maybe they are jealous of China. This is how I understand it. I'm quite confused why Chinese athletes must be suspected when they win gold medals in the Olympics. Why can western athletes win gold medals but not us?"

Ye's win in the 400 meter medley had critics some questioning how she could have beaten Ryan Lochte's time and kocked 5 seconds off her personal best in that race.

Her father says the speculation is unfounded, pointing out that his daughter was already competing in the adult category as a 13-year-old.

SOUNDBITE:Ye Shiwen's father saying (Mandarin):

"I was quite angry when I saw this news. When you criticize someone, you should have evidence. You should not criticize others like this without evidence. I think it's immoral."

Ye has never failed a drug test and her performance has been defended by Olympic officials.
