The Golden Horn, an inlet of the sea, one of the natural harbours in the world, is located between the two European quarters of Istanbul (the old Istanbul and the modern Istanbul). Since antiquity, this arm of the Bosphorus has been called “Golden Horn” because of its form like a horn, and the golden colour of the water surface at sunset. It is 11 km long, has an average depth of 40m, and its max. width reaches 800m.
