National Youth Day :
This year the theme of the day is “Self employed youth force, foundation of the sustainable development”.

The government and non-government organizations have taken elaborate programmes to mark the day.

Inaugural function of the day will be held at Osmani Smriti auditorium at 10:00 am. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to present as the chief guest at the inaugural function. Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy will be present as special guest.

Bangladesh Betar will live telecast the inaugural function from the Osmani Smriti auditorium on the day.

To mark the day, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages.

National Youth Award will be given to 19 youths for their contributions to establishing self-employment projects.

In a message on the eve of the day, President Abdul Hamid said there is no alternative to build the youth force as skilled human resource for the overall development of the country.

He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had a dream to build Bangladesh as ‘Golden Bengal’ and urged all to work together to fulfill this dream of Bangabandhu.

“They (youths) are the important segment of the country and driving force of the nation, so they should be built as a disciplined workforce to let them be in the mainstream of development activities,” he said.

The President recalled the important role of the youth force in the language movement, the War of Independence in 1971 and other movements and hoped that the youth force would utilize their talents and creativity for the progress of the country.

In a separate message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government would be able to build “Sonar Bangla” (golden Bengal) as dreamt by the greatest Bangalee of all time and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, utilizing immense potential of the youth force.

On the eve of the National Youth Day 2016, she said the youth, who constitutes one third of the country’s total population, is the driving force of the nation, valuable asset of the country and symbol of dream and potentiality of the people.

She greeted the youth community on the occasion.

The Prime Minister said the present government has been implementing a number of programmes to create leadership quality, generate patriotism and sense of responsibility among the youth through education, training and employment.

“Bangladesh has already achieved a lower middle income country status and I believe that Bangladesh would be a middle income country by 2021 by using the advantage of demographic dividend and this country would be a developed country by 2041,” she said.

The Prime Minister said “we have a continuous effort to achieve the ‘Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of the United Nations and there is no alternative to achieve the goal without participation of the youths.”

She said the present government has been imparting training in various aspects, including information technology, to the youth aimed at turning them into skilled human resources.
