Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, a renowned educationist, scholar and social reformer of Bengal, was born on 26 September 1802 in a poor family in a village called Veerasingh in Midnapore district of West Bengal. His father Thakurdas Bandhopadhyay used to work in a shop for 8 rupees monthly but he paid full attention to the education of his meritorious son. Even in poverty, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar kept moving forward. He was very brilliant. Once you read something, you never forget it.
