The Mool Mantar - Ek Onkar Satnaam, also spelled Mul Mantra, is the most significant composition in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of the Sikh community. Serving as the foundation of Sikhism, "Mool" means "main," "root," or "chief," while "Mantar" means "magic chant" or "magic portion."

Combined, "Mool Mantar" re or Mnatra refers to the "Main chant" or "root verse," highlighting its importance as the first composition to appear in the holy Granth of the Sikhs. It precedes the main section comprising of 31 Raags or chapters.

Guru Nanak Dev, upon enlightenment at the age of about 30, uttered Ek Onkar the Mool Mantar, and it encapsulates the entire theology of Sikhism. When learning Gurbani, most people learn this verse first.

The brief composition encompasses the entire universally complex theology of the Sikh faith, including religious, social, political, logical, martial, and eternal implications for human existence. It embodies truly humanitarian and global concepts of the Supreme power for all to understand and appreciate.
