Protesters in South Korea staged an anti-nuclear rally to mark Earth Day. It comes as neighboring Japan is still struggling with a nuclear crisis. Protestors urged the South Korean government to denounce nuclear developments worldwide.

Anti-nuclear protesters rallied in Seoul, South Korea on Thursday... denouncing nuclear developments around the world and to mark Earth Day.

The anti-nuclear campaign was called "Stop Radioactive Tears on the Earth."

Protesters were in yellow and white raincoats and wore gas masks. They held up black tattered umbrellas while chanting slogans urging the government to denounce worldwide nuclear developments.

[Kim Jong-nam, Environmentalist]:
"Tomorrow is the 41st anniversary of Earth Day. Now, national concerns have grown regarding the nuclear development and its threat since the Fukushima nuclear accident. We're here to hold a civil campaign to make the earth safe from nuclear accidents and deaths."

Japan is struggling to bring the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant under control after it was damaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

South Korea has 21 nuclear reactors in operation at four power plants. They range in age from 33 years to just three months. Twelve more reactors are expected to come on stream in the next decade.
