উত্তর কোরিয়ার বিরুদ্ধে আরোপিত সবশেষ মার্কিন নিষেধাজ্ঞা জরুরি ভিত্তিতে প্রত্যাহারের জন্য যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের প্রতি আহ্বান জানিয়েছে চীন। শনিবার চীনের পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের নিষেধাজ্ঞাকে একতরফা উল্লেখ তা প্রত্যাখানের পাশাপাশি এ আহ্বান জানায়। তবে নতুন নিষেধাজ্ঞা বাস্তবায়নে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রকে সহায়তার ঘোষণা দিয়েছে অস্ট্রেলিয়া। এদিকে, উত্তর কোরিয়ার ক্ষমতাসীন দলের ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট কিম জং সুলের নেতৃত্বে শীতকালীন অলিম্পিকের সমাপনীতে যোগ দিতে পায়াংচ্যাং পৌঁছেছে পিয়ংইয়ংয়ের প্রতিনিধিদল। তিনি দক্ষিণ কোরিয়ার রণতরী ডুবে ৪৬ সেনা নিহতের ঘটনায় অভিযুক্ত হওয়ায়, এ সফরের বিরুদ্ধে বিক্ষোভ করেছে দক্ষিণ কোরীয়রা।

শীতকালীন অলিম্পিকের সমাপনী অনুষ্ঠানে উত্তর কোরিয়ার ক্ষমতাসীন দলের ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট জেনারেল কিম জং সুলের আগমন নিশ্চিত হওয়ার পর থেকেই বিক্ষোভ করে আসছে দক্ষিণ কোরীয়রা। রোববার রাজধানী সিউলে বিরোধী দল আয়োজিত বিক্ষোভে অংশ নিয়ে তারা বলেন, ২০১০ সালে দক্ষিণ কোরীয় নৌ বাহিনীর রণতরী চেনান ডুবির ঘটনায় উত্তর কোরিয়ার এই উচ্চপদস্থ কর্মকর্তা জড়িত। ওই দুর্ঘটনায় ৪৬ জন দক্ষিণ কোরীয় সেনার প্রাণহানির জন্য তাকেই দায়ী করে বিক্ষোভকারীরা।

Protesters blamed him for the killing of 46 South Korean soldiers in the crash.
