About Ravi D Channannavar:

Used to frequently skip his primary school and work in farms to earn money for his family.  He was the son of Migrant labour.  In his school and college days he used to work as agricultural labours, in theatre and also in bar for his studies.

This is a story of ‘MalenadaSimha’ in english which refers Malenad’s Lion and ‘Singam of Karnataka’ Ravi D Channannavar.  He is from small village in Gadag called Nalagunda.  He obtained 703rd Rank in UPSC exams.

Mr.Ravi scored 87% in SSLC and stood first in village.  He worked in Mahalaxmi Theatre in Gadag and later in a brandy shop while pursuing his PU to meet his educational expenses and family obligations.  Despite all of these odds, Ravi scored 89% in PU.Later, Ravi joined B.A. at Karnataka Arts College of Dharwad and continued his working for his expenses in Bars from 6pm to midnight and passed his B.A. by scoring 79%.

Ravi left for Hyderabad on May 2007 to attend classes for IAS examination.  He also chooses the institute that fitted his pocket and began preparing in earnest.  “There were many people who looked down upon me because of my family background.  But if you are clear in your mind about your goal, there are always people to help you and encourage you.  You should have the determination to succeed,” he told THE HINDU over phone from Hyderabad when he cleared his UPSC.

He worked as an successful SP in Hosapet, Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Hassan, Davangere, Mysore and presently working as SP for Bengaluru North Division.  He made many public service programs like for Women Safety “OnakeObavvaPade”, “Self-Protection Training”, for Police Staff Help, “Police Canteen”, and “Police Medical”. For Farmers he started “NammurallobbaSaadhaka” (Achiever in our village) program.  To help students he started Free UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) coaching.

Ravi is well known for handling Ganesha Utsav violence brilliantly in 2015 at shivamogga where it ended up by imposing section 144 of IPC.  To minimize Cyber crimes, On 17 April 2015, he instructed all cyber cafes in Shivamogga district to install security software ‘icafemanager’. In his eight years of professional life he has solved 1300 gamble case, 1400 Abakari (liquor) rides, 35 Ganja Cases, 50 Prostitution cases, 715 Sand Mafia cases and 950 other cases.
