This song was written in 1986 at the request of my friend and Alto, Kathy Ossmann. This is one of her favorite e. e. cummings poems. It expresses unbounded joy in the experience of the natural world and being alive. It sums up the way I feel about life: The very fact that we exist at all is so amazing that we couldn’t possibly doubt the existence of God. The song ends with a feeling of hushed awe. I have a recording of Kathy Ossmann performing this song, but unfortunately the audio is extremely poor. The song was performed here on Feb. 10, 2013 by David Saslav, tenor and Mizue Hishinuma, piano. Contact me at dvic56@aol.com for info on sheet music.
