The Fiddler’s Song – for voice, flute, violin, piano & guitar, Op. 107 (words and music: Dale Victorine)
On June 6, 2014 I had a dream where a thin woman with long blonde hair, holding a violin in one hand, and a bow in the other sang a Celtic sounding song to me a capella. She sang the melody through two times in an unusually low voice. When I awoke the tune was very clear in my mind and I jotted it down. I left it at that for a couple of days, but when I looked at it again I knew I needed to write an arrangement. One problem was that I didn’t remember any words. The whole thing may have been in Gaelic. I wrote the arrangement to sound like a proper Celtic band: voice, flute, violin, guitar and piano. Finally, when I’d gotten every note in place and asked a couple folk music friends to try writing the lyric, I decided that I was the only one who could try to capture the feeling of the singer and the song.
